I did not "defend the settlers". I referred to the Israeli extremists as terrorists and murderers and dangerous people who must be stopped. You do not need to prove to me that radical elements exist among the Israelis. I think it is obvious.

I did try to differentiate between the acceptance and encouragement of terror on the part of a substantial majority of Palestinians, and the prosecution of extremists on the part of the civilized nations of the world. If Israel does not prosecute and punish its own extremists for the crimes they commit, they lower themselves to the barbarous level of those who support terrorism - like the Palestinians.

However, your own posts have documented how the Israeli government has arrested and interrogated the Israeli terrorists and their conspirators. The assassin of Rabin was captured and imprisoned. None of this seems to have been done reluctantly, and in fact the Israeli police actively investigated and arrested those responsible for this latest attempted murder. I hope they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

There is almost certainly much more room for improvement in the control of extremist Israeli groups by the Israeli government. However, it is my opinion that the Israelis are far ahead of the Palestinians in this respect. While Israeli terrorists risk arrest and imprisonment for their crimes, Palestinian terrorists receive glowing support from their community. That is insane.

There are lots of bad things in the world, and there are lots of good things that need to be even better. It frustrates me to hear people bitch about things like the shortcomings of the American free press, while children are being murdered in pizza parlors. Sure the American media can be improved, but can we set some priorities? Can we try to stop the wholesale murder of teenagers in discos and pool halls before we get into an extended debate about editorial license being exercised at the Iowa Bumblebee Press?
