Re : over-priced melons in Japan / clever marketing trick -- although I agree with everything you say, I still think it is dumb. If Godiva chocolates cost $100.00 per pound in the U.S. (instead of around $32.00, I believe ...) they would be perceived as "more exclusive." But, I suspect people in the U.S. would collectively say "up yours" to sellers of Godiva (at $100.00 per pound). Yet in Japan, this mentality (very high price = "even better") seems to work perfectly ... Jon.
