I'm not sure that even the participants in the early Sun and Apollo companies would see this as vague or inflamatory.

Apollo computers were break-through workstations that revolutionized the 'midicomputer' market. They were the first true engineering desktop, powerful enough to run engineering apps and with the most innovative networking scheme to date. Quite frankly, Apollo machines kicked Sun workstations in the behind. I programmed both in the early '80s, writing CAE applications. The Apollo OS and network, though proprietary, were clearly technically superior to what Sun had to offer.

Apollo lost because of Sun's clever open platform positioning, and their own inability to capitalize on their technical advantage. Very similar to how MSFT has beaten technically superior competition.

Sun ended up hiring a good number of former Apollo Computer workers. I think if you talk to any of them, you will see that my statements are pretty accurate. In fact, I believe one of the recent executive departees from Sun was a former Apollo employee (I forgot which one).

Did that make it any less vague? Is it inflammatory to view the facts about the companies that you invest in without rose coloring? As stated, I am a SUNW long, but I try to see the warts with the curls...
