Italy's WIND Selects Compaq and BMD Wireless for Core Network SMS Platform
MILAN, May 16, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Compaq Computer srl, now part of the new HP, announced today that Italian operator WIND has selected Compaq and BMD Wireless to provide a core network messaging platform enabling the deployment of a wide range of new SMS services.
The Mobile Terminating Gateway platform (WAMS) provides WIND, a forward thinking operator of convergent fixed-line, mobile and Internet services (with 25.2 million customers), with proven technology to deploy interactive SMS services.
The Wireless Application Messaging Server (WAMS) is a solution from BMD Wireless that is based on Compaq AlphaServer platforms running Tru64 Unix, utilizing the IN7 signaling stack and supported by Compaq global and local services. The product is the most widely deployed cross network SMS platform in the world, operational in several networks offering a high throughput capacity.
