Engineered Support Receives $8.5 Million Contract For Chemical Biological
Shelter Units

ST. LOUIS, May 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Engineered Support Systems,
Inc. (Nasdaq: EASI) has received an order totaling $8.5 million for production
of 20 of its Chemical Biological Protected Shelter (CBPS) systems under an
existing contract with the U.S. Army. The receipt of this order brings the
total number of CPBS systems under contract to 143 units, according to
Michael F. Shanahan, Sr., Chairman and CEO.
CBPS, designed for use in chemically or biologically contaminated areas,
is a self-contained, environmentally controlled and contamination-free work
area that can serve as a mobile medical aid station, field command post or
emergency facility. The CBPS can be deployed and fully operational in less
than 20 minutes, which is a critical characteristic since it is designed to be
relocated as many as three times each day. The U.S. Army Soldier & Biological
Chemical Command in Natick, MA (Natick) is the procuring agency on the CBPS
contract and the units are produced at the Company's Engineered Air Systems
subsidiary in St. Louis.
"The threat of attack featuring biological or chemical agents via warfare
or terrorist attack has unfortunately never been more dire." Shanahan
commented, "Our CBPS system is capable of providing collective protection from
these unseen weapons of mass destruction to our military personnel in the
field. Currently designated for use as a mobile medical aid station, the CBPS
can also house a military command post and is suitable for various Homeland
Defense uses as well. We expect the highly successful CBPS program to remain
a key component of our Company's military support business for the foreseeable
future."
With the receipt of this order, the current CBPS contract backlog stands
at 21.9 million, including unfunded production options for another 156 units.
Engineered Support Systems, Inc. engineers and manufacturers a wide range
of electronics and military support equipment for various branches of the U.S.
military and commercial customers. For more information, please visit the
