Zero tolerance policies are usually bad ideas. Not that there is nothing that we should have no tolerance for, but no one announces a zero tolerance policy for murder or terrorism, and what would it mean if you did announce it. Instead these policies get applied to things like guns in school (or pictures of guns, or pointing a finger or a piece of chicken at someone and saying bang), or drugs (where a girl who gives her inhaler to another student on a bus, when the other student is suffering a severe asthma attack, get suspended for distributing drugs).

Zero tolerance often means don't think, just attack anyone who has even a hint of something, or maybe just talks about something, that you don't like.
