As I read the news this morning, I wondered how many people here are in favor of normalizing relations with Cuba.

Even though we may not approve of the way Castro is running the country, those supporting normalization argue that it is better to have normal relations so that we can have some influence to help address abuses there, rather than keeping him an outcast who feels forced to express his hostility in other ways.

Of course, it's always easier to apply our principles to problems far away than those in our own backyards, isn't it?
