If it goes completely brain dead, the only way to restore it would be to JTAG the data in. In most cases the consumer would just get a new phone.

I dunno, I don't think this would be a significant problem. The biggest advantages MirrorBit has is that on a given process and capacity, it has a smaller die. It also likely has a higher yield for a given die size because it has less processing steps. In addition, it will likely scale down to finer geometries than StrataFlash. All of which means it should be cheaper to make, and cheaper to sell. And AMD still has their conventional flash for those companies that need the better characteristics. Price and density has been the only cards in StrataFlash's hand, and they just got trumped...
