[Chat Joby, etc. RE: FERO],

I know this should be on the FERO thread, but since it is dormant, I thought I'd follow up on your question:

<<I'm somewhat confused as to the difference between crystal pullers and
the crystal growing furnaces mentioned.
Is this significant competition for FERO or would Kayex be a potential
customer?>>

Kayex produces a family of crystal growing furnaces utilizing the Czochralski method, in which a
seed crystal is immersed into the molten material and allowed to grow. The seed crystal is slowly
raised from the melt as it increases in size. Thus the crystal growing furnace is sometimes called a
"crystal puller." www3.kayex.com

By the way, Kayex's president makes a rather interesting claim that "Kayex is responsible for over 50% of all computer
chips ever made" www3.kayex.com

I thought Andrew had indicated that FERO had market leadership in 200mm category. Does this then imply that Kayex lost leadership to FERO with the 200mm generation and now seeks to regain it? How likely is such an event?

FERO talks about pullers as a lower margin product? How low are product margins in pullers and why? Is competition fierce? Are they commodity items? Are there any fundamental changes afoot in the puller market as the industry transitions to 300 mm wafers that might make investments particularly attractive in this area or do these companies sell at low PSRs for valid reasons?

Perhaps we can continue the chat on FERO thread.

Also long FERO,
