tippet. "I don't believe that these option sales weren't contributors to earnings. If they were contributors to earnings, then the CFO can't claim that they counted toward reducing the cost of the buybacks. And for all the buybacks, what has happened to shares outstanding? What a bunch of smoke and mirrors ..."

You have several double negatives in this statement. Le me rewrite it so I can understand it.

I do believe that these option sales were contributors to earnings, because the CFO claims that they counted toward "reducing the cost of the buybacks". And, with all the buybacks there has still been a net increase in the shares outstanding."

I do not see how your first point, that the "option program at Dell being a contributor toward earnings" has anything to do with reducing the cost of the buybacks.

Your second point, that there has been a net increase in the shares outstanding is understandable.

But, belief is one thing, confusion regarding earnings statement is another.
