Well, let's see, when a Confederate-American hears some character yelling "Yankee go home" on the nightly news, he's apt to think "sounds good to me." Confederate-Americans regard New Yorkers as an odd, and perhaps alien species, not unlike Martians. Confederate-Americans are good at combining contradictions -- being fiercly independent and very patriotic at the same time. Despising socialism while often enlisting in that most socialistic of vocations, the military. Thomas Jefferson, Virginian, was certainly a progenitor of Confederate America, penning the Declaration of Independence while holding slaves, and believing in small, limited government while enacting the Lousiana Purchase, an act unprovided for in the Constitution. Confederate Americans tend to like thoroughbred horses and women. They are good at spinning tall tales, and love playing with words. They have a taste for fried chicken, barbecue, sweet corn and all sorts of wonderful victuals. Notably, Confederate Americans regard Big Business with as much suspicion as Big Government. So yeah, States Rights is regarded as a countervailing power to that hungriest of powers in America, the national government. Given enough time, even a yankee will come to understand the folly of surrending his fate to the tender mercies of big government. |
