Highwire act with Razor wire for safety net -Musharaff walks the sky walk-JPR
RiffRaff Musharaff is doing a highwire act with razor wire spread out below in case he falls. It is sincerely wished that he doesn't take the country with him in his fall because another cottonpicking general with itchy twitchy finger on the nuclear button might emerge as the leader - an euphemism for an oligarch. He has to accommodate the Generals, the fundamentalist Mullahs, the ISI, the military, the bill-paying Americans, the hostile neighbors, the Taliban and AlQaeda, his own hunger for power and place in history, the revolving-door jailhouse terrorists (it is not like a roach motel, where the roaches check in and never check out), and such and such. His hands are too full -- his mind is empty-- for him to carry the balancing pole on his highwire act with razor wire below.
Pakistan is a killing field, where death dispatchers practice their profession with ease, comfort, and precision with official sanction of incompetence and impotence to curb violence. --JPR

There is something rotten in society when more than 100 doctors are murdered in broad daylight by unidentified assassins who disappear never to be found again. Something rotten again when distinguished people like Hakim Saeed, Shaukat Rizvi and Dr Ghulam Murtaza are gunned down by the members of the invisible killing brigade.
Other phantom killers have added to the state of putrefaction by the massacre of the Bahawalpur Christians and the church slayings in the Islamabad diplomatic enclave. Then of course, there is the recent bomb blast by a suicide bomber which apart from killing several Frenchman and some Pakistanis, has probably seriously damaged Musharraf's economic revival programme. |
