John, we have the Resource Management Act here and it's costing a fortune and achieving nothing. We have Tree Protection Acts which will result in deaths as trees fall on people and which costs a fortune as people fuss and fight over trees and property values are decimated. We have recycling mania which causes deaths [a guy got crushed in a roadside collection truck when he reached in to grab something] and wastes money and jams traffic and the mess isn't nice either. We have government committees and waste on a grand scale on environmental issues.

In my youth it was the opposite and harbours, rivers, beaches, air, brains and a lot more besides were destroyed and damaged with little care and much ignorance.

The whole CO2 industry is wasting a fortune with a LOT more to waste. NZ is seriously considering signing up to the Kyoto CO2 deal which will cost us heaps for no benefit.

I can assure you that BP has heard of spin. They might even have invented it, but they sure don't have a monopoly.
