Afsir Karim: Extract the nuclear tooth of the pakis

headlines.sify.com
Retired Major General of the Indian army Major General Afsir Karim says India has very little or no
leverage against Pakistan on the diplomatic and economic fronts and dismisses the government's assertions as "mere rhetoric".

He says that if the government is serious, then it is "futile to talks repeatedly of cross-border air strikes etc, as they are not going damage Pakistan's offensive capability including the resort to proxy war one bit."

Instead, what he proposes is a "long-term strategy", and more innovative measures, including "a strike at their nuclear installations", provided it is a part of a long-term strategy against Pakistan worked out by the government.

It's time for India to walk its talk on Pakistan! That is a point where the Vajpayee government, the opposition parties, the military establishment and policy analysts agree upon.

But, when it comes to options or modalities in turning the screws on Pakistan, opinions seem to differ. Especially so when it comes to the question of whether India should use its military arm as a "final solution" to put an end to the attacks from across the LoC.
