"The crisis will last a couple of years. It will take a few years for companies to get rid of their debt situation," spokesman Bram Oudshoorn told Reuters. "There's little room for innovation because companies have to concentrate on their debt situation. But KPN is already in a much better position than France Telecom FTE.PA and Deutsche Telekom DTEGn.DE in that respect." The bidding war among European telecoms companies for next-generation mobile phone frequencies left companies "dramatically impoverished", KPN Chief Executive Ad Scheepbouwer said in an interview in the weekend edition of the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper.
