To get to a point where there can be lasting peace in the Middle East both sides have to respect the treaties and agreements they have made. The Palestinians agreed to not arm themselves with weapons other than what is supposed to be used to police themselves. They agreed not to buy or legally allow in tanks, mortars, rockets, armored troop carriers, bazookas, artillery, and other weapons of war that could render the Israelis military power less dominating. Think about that for a minute. The Israelis agreed to give the Palestinians land in return for secured borders and peace. But what has happened? The Israelis have occupied the Palestinian lands with more and more settlements, taking, in many cases, the best lands and most strategic points. I believe that the Israelis deserve to live in peace, but not to be tyrants.
The Israelis, with U.S. backing, have gone too far imo. Sharon is a butcher and his true stripes have re-emerged with the excuse of 9/11 to wrap around his blood stained hands. Do Americans sympathize with a country trying to protect itself against terrorism? Darned straight. But are we so shallow and short sighted that we condone butchering a people and taking over their land? It's a mess over there and fears and hate run deep on both sides. But in times like these, might does not make right.
We need a Marshal type plan sponsored by the U.S. and the Arabs to get the Palestinians to a decent level of survival and hope of prosperity. Sharon, needs to get his fat ass in check and show greater wisdom. If the guy can't learn to compromise, then the U.S. should turn it's back on him and the Israeli "defense" effort until they become decent, civilized humans beings. |
