FWIW - I've got a daughter in college. She runs Linux on an old Pentium box. I offered to buy her a "latest and greatest" Windows machine and she declined. I also have a teen daughter at home. She uses whatever we have. She has never complained about not having enough computer "horsepower" available; the only computer related complaint I recall from her was that the sound card we were using at one point didn't sound very good to her. Maybe my kids are unusual when it comes to computers, but I doubt it. JMHO. Charles Tutt (SM)
