Well frankly I appreciate your recognition of his credentials. The ivory tower of academia is sometimes the place where we need to go to get opinions on complex financial strategies that are not fully viewable. He is a PHD in Mathematics and Statistics and is more conversent with the mathematical models that all options and hedges are based on. I don't think I would want him to tell me where the vein is likly to re-enter the mining zone on a deposit but that is not the matter we are dealing with here. THe real problem is what is the true nature of the hedges and are they really hedges or a bet on gold staying low or going lower? That takes a deep understanding of the derivative business and the products being employed to put into context what little information Barrick has allowed out about them. We are all learning what is really going on with Barrick's financial hedges and it's future as the discussion continues. My point is that compared to Wall Street analysts almost all of them ,I do know personally and have for years these guys are geniuses..Believe me..
