Ha ha, Freddy!! I bet they start implementing Smog Check 2 in Los Angeles first, since it is the most polluted part of the state, with the LA basin to deal with geographically, and the inversion layer of smog hovering over it. Perhaps you would like to move up here and enjoy some of our clean air and ride your bike around town for exercise and transportation!

Seriously, thought, do you know when they will start doing all this? I agree totally with you that it creates a hardship for the old, young, and poor. Maybe there is a way to solve this dilemma and preserve air quality, but I haven't thought of any ideas about how to do that yet.

I'm not sure I would go so far as to call it the air quality gestapo yet, though. I read the results of a study this week which suggested that crib death--sudden infant death syndrome--becomes more prevalent exactly in proportion to the air quality, thus causing 45 additional babies to die every year in Los Angeles. This is another example of how difficult it is to balance everyone's needs and still keep some freedoms.
