So for the gigabyte card and the camera its 1100 and for the computer it's 1000 bucks. That's 2100. I know lots of fokes have a PC but if you ask me that is a lot of snapshots. I found people tended to fill up the family album with the kids, and then they used Cine-8. Or video knowadays. Home video results are disappointing so that becomes a toy that remains in the close eventually. Digie cameras are expensive and their lenses are poor and fixed. Picture quality is low compared to a 1925 kodak brownie. It will be a long long time before it beats silver for many many uses. I look at the sharpness of pictures I took in B and W in 1965 with my 35 mil Edixa Prismat with Soligor lens and I think digital camera users are kidding themselves. I could blow them up to 8 X 10 twice. And if you played with focus zoom-aperture/depth of field you could get many subtle contrast/detail effects. You can't go there with digie. You can't get halftone or chroma filter even, which used to be a whole areas of photography. Those billion pixels of silver are still entrancing. If you want snapshots galore, take a digie, if you want breathtaking mountain shots on the vacation, take a 35 mil. That is one thing they don't tell you. Video and digie lose backdrop detail quickly. A pixel smears a lot at a half a mile. On the other hand you can collect a whack of snapshots cheap once you have the digie system. Just don't have a disk crash. One thing they should get straight is lossless compression schemes that are standard. I don't know if any cameras take JPEG or gifs directly but I noted that in phoning some manufacturers and asking if they had linux software and did they save as jpegs or better still png it appears they only did Windows. I can understand their bias in one way but I think they are missing a univerality march. I can think of a few products here that would sell big to photogs/PC users but lets not go there. Too many years, too many stolen ideas. EC<:-}
