BMC's Patrol software framework is the jewel EMC is in pursuit of in its merger talks with BMC, the source said. Well that is interesting. Patrol is a midrange systems monitoring and automation tool. In the implementation I am familiar with, it was used to bring together a large enterprise's midrange(Sun, HP, AS400, etc) systems so they could be centrally monitored. I guess conceptually this is similar to what a SAN does from the storage side. Edit: It is a rather loose analogy, as I understand you cannot share processing via Patrol the way a SAN is designed to share storage amongst systems. Cooters
