Actually, there has been plenty of examination in the post- Vietnam era, but the results are mixed. Still, we avoided a major war; rolled over the most formidable opponent we faced (Saddam); brought the Cold War to a close, without major bloodshed, except in the former Yugoslavia: helped to stabilize the situation in Yugoslavia; brought a degree of reform and peace to Central America; helped to get Egypt out of the war- making business, so that Israel has not had a major war in over 20 years; kept a lid, up to this point, on hostilities between India and Pakistan; helped to broker a peaceful transition in South Africa; and many other things that show we have not just been sitting with our thumbs up our hoozits......
