I plan to travel to Japan, will GSM work there? I visit london about 4 times a year, and this summer I want to stay in japan for a few weeks..

I'd like to have a phone that will work anywhere, period. I've read that GSM phones bought in the US don't work in japan.. is this true?

My nokia 8890 (GSM) works fine in great britain, even if I do get gouged for each minute. It's worth it to not search for payphones and to be reachable by people back in the states, though..
