I have been waiting patiently for June to arrive - o.k., maybe not so patiently. Unfortunately, I will only be able to transfer my non-RRSP account to Interactive Brokers. My much larger RRSP account is where I do most of my trading because gains are not taxed. For my non-registered account, I will be able to use access to futures options, but the low commissions are less important because I don't trade frequently outside the RRSP.

I emailed IB asking if they would be offering registered accounts in Canada and got the response "What is an RRSP?" I am not kidding. I explained RRSP's in my next email to the customer service department, which is obviously based in the U.S., and asked again. "Check the web site" is the response I got.

Well, duh! The web site lists a typical cash account, but doesn't indicate if it can be registered. My third response was "that is the list of accounts we will offer". I have given up. It is clear that they will not be able to answer my question until they have a rep with Canadian experience. I am unwilling to assume that IB would be dumb enough not to give a registered option.
