California Amplifier Inc. met its own increased estimate of fourth quarter earnings and revenue.

The company attributed its fourth quarter performance to stronger demand for its satellite products, an improved product mix and tight cost controls.

Analysts expected fourth quarter earnings of 4 cents a share, according to a Thomson Financial/First Call mean earnings estimate.

In April, the company said it expected to meet or exceed the upper end of its December estimates, which called for earnings of 1 cent to 4 cents a share on revenue of $18 million to $22 million.

California Amplifier boosted its first quarter earnings guidance, citing improved operating efficiencies and a "favorable satellite product mix." The company now expects to earn 7 cents to 10 cents a share in the quarter and reaffirmed its earlier first quarter sales estimate.

In April, after acquiring Kaul-Tronics Inc.'s satellite business, the company projected first quarter earnings of 4 cents to 7 cents a share on sales of $20 million to $25 million.

First Call's mean earnings estimate is 5 cents a share for the first quarter.

In the first quarter of 2001, the company earned $71,000, or 1 cent a share, on sales of $22.1 million.
