Ted, U.S. support for Israel has been anything but unconditional. We're more likely to take Israel's side than any other nation in the free world, but I don't think it goes to the point of being unconditional. It says a lot when the author of the "Bush doctrine" tells Sharon not to pursue that very doctrine to the letter.

Tenchusatsu, Bush told Sharon to get out of the WB...it was another week to two weeks before Sharon even began to start the pull out........and then the pull out never was finished. Of course, Bush then backed down from his original position because he looked pretty ineffective.....at least until the Saudis starting putting on the pressure. Now, the whole thing may have been a game set up between the US and Israel to placate the Saudis but I don't think so.

As for the effectiveness of Sharon's incursion into the WB, I see no effectiveness. If anything, he has made things worse. My position would be is to tell Israel to get rid of Sharon and the Likud party, or accept that we cut off the $3 billion spigot. The actions of Israel effect us......to ignore that reality is asking for trouble.
