I think once they quit being president, and the daily dose of BS stops, they gain perspective. I admit to having grown rather fond of Carter. His heart is in the right place, even though sometimes he's a busybody. Can't say that Bush I, Ford or Clinton have inspired me much, but I thought Nixon really redeemed himself with the books he wrote after resigning.
