Re: Most Americans couldn't care less what Germans think.

It's rare for me to agree with you, Moenmac, but I do regarding this statement.

The question that comes to my mind though is how long can a slight majority of Americans dominate the agenda of the other 97% of humanity who don't see their best interests aligned with the Bush agenda? Treating the majority of the planet's population as if they are in the terrorist camp can't possibly lead to peace and a sensible future for the planet.

It's been quite interesting to see the escalation of twin phenomena. On one hand, there is a growing chorus of bi-partisan and non-partisan voices calling for an investigation of the intelligence failure leading up to the events of 9/11. And on the other hand, almost in lockstep is the escalation of shrill denunciation of new states joining the "axis of evil". Just in the past couple of weeks, the original threesome seem to have essentially doubled to a sextuplet, with Syria, Libya and Cuba added to the sum of all fears that Americans are supposed to now worry about.

It seems like a shameless distraction on the part of the Administration to attempt to deflect criticism regarding their penchant for secrecy, their failure to coordinate intelligence agencies, their failure to establish a truly independent commission to investigate 9/11 in an impartial way.

I recommend this highly insightful and intelligent opinion piece from George Will in today's Washington Post to all patriotic Republicans who agree with me that getting to bottom of the issues surrounding 9/11 isn't a partisan matter, and that the Bush team needs to allow the nation to understand the situation better.
