That's a great example. I mean everyone, Catholics and non-Catholics are shocked by the scandal. There isn't anyone defending the priests involved. Even the Catholic church wouldn't defend the behavior- by hiding the priests they no doubt thought they were doing the church a favor. This didn't turn out to be the case, but their motives certainly weren't to further child abuse. Yet when people of diametrically opposed views get hold of this issue on the one hand you would think the Catholic church supported child abuse and on the other you would think that even mentioning this issue was anit-religious. The truth may be out there, but it is rarely found on SI.
