I've got to think that all those who are talking about a huge government conspirarcy to get Tony are being a little bit unrealistic about his influence.
If Tony had gone after Halliburton, or Schlumberger, or any of the other oil-patch companies that have the Bush administration in their pocket, I'd concede you may have a point. If he had attacked the precious defense contractors, even some of the smaller ones, I'd again say you have a point.
The fact is, that most of the companies Tony seemed to attack were small, under-capitalized and hardly of concern to the powers-that-be in Washington. To say that the Justice Dept. would care about those charlatans, or Tony's opinions of them, is to inflate his importance to ridiculous proportions. Fact is, he couldn't have made a dent in a major publically traded corporation even if he put all his resources into it. He's an interesting guy and there was much to be learned reading his stuff, but let's be real about him. He never attacked anybody big enough for the Justice Dept. to care about. He got cocky, and maybe just a bit stupid. Such is the way of the world.
I know the FBI pretty well and agree with other posts I've seen on the subject. They wouldn't have gone after two of their own if they didn't think the offense was both serious and would stand up in court.
