World Chip Capacity Utilization Rate Rises 10.4 Points

TOKYO, May 23 Asia Pulse - The global capacity utilization rate for semiconductor production equipment was 76.3 per cent in the January-March period, up 10.4 percentage points from the preceding quarter, Semiconductor International Capacity Statistics announced Wednesday.
The quarterly increase is the second in a row, reflecting a recovery in demand for semiconductors.

The capacity utilization rate for metal oxide semiconductor equipment was 76.5 per cent, also up 10.4 percentage points from the preceding quarter. The rate for equipment used to produce semiconductors below 0.2 micron was 90.4 per cent, an increase of 6.9 percentage points.

The rate for equipment used to produce bipolar chips, which are used in communications equipment, was 74.5 per cent, up 10.8 percentage points and the first gain in seven quarters.
