Web Sites Run by Indicted Short Seller Elgindy Poised to Shut Down
By: Carol S. Remond

Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- Two web sites owned and operated by famed short seller Anthony Elgindy will cease operations by early Thursday.

Mr. Elgindy was arrested and charged with a slew of securities-related offenses earlier Wednesday.

An e-mail message sent to subscribers of anthonypacific.com said that site and insidetruth.com would shut late Wednesday.

A federal indictment handed down in Brooklyn , N.Y. , alleges that Mr. Elgindy employed two agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to get nonpublic, often criminal background, information about executives at companies that he would sell to subscribers of his Internet-based service. He would allegedly later more broadly disseminate that information via Internet chatroom postings in an effort to make the target company stock prices move lower, thereby financially benefitting him and others who bought his information, all of whom had already shorted the stock.
