And the Sandinistas may have been popular (at least for awhile after they kicked out Somoza) but they took and kept power through force not democratic elections.

Excellent point, because we all know that the best way to overthrow a dictator is to elect him out of office . . . Huh?

In addition to proposing this downright silly rationale, you proceed to lie. As I have already documented, they did hold elections in 1984 and they won. Furthermore, they did keep holding elections, even after the U.S. did everything in its power to rig those elections against the Sandanistas. It worked, and the Sandanistas conceded their office by popular demand, the same way they took office. They had every right to declare a state of national emergency and impose martial law, as they were under military attack by the U.S. (including civilian targets).
