Hi Chris,

It's important to keep in mind that certain areas of Antarctica are actually getting colder and have greater snow and ice accumulations than years ago. It's a very complicated picture. I believe the one aspect of global warming that is very troublesome is not that the the polar ice caps will melt, but rather that we will endure a series of increasingly wilder storms.

The way to judge how seriously we should take this is the fact that insurance company actuaries have begun to take notice and are escalating premiums to account for what they see as increasing costs from severe natural disasters. Whether it's fire insurance for drought struck areas like the US Rockies, or major hurricanes on the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, for example, the calculation is that weather is measurably becoming more severe.
