Worldwide IC-equipment orders jump 35% in Q1 over Q4, says SEMI By Semiconductor Business News May 23, 2002 (11:09 AM) SAN JOSE -- Worldwide orders for semiconductor-production equipment were $4.15 billion in the first quarter of 2002, down 36% from the like period a year ago, but up 35% from the fourth quarter of 2001, according to new figures from the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) trade organization here today.
Worldwide billings for semiconductor equipment were $4.05 billion, down 64% from the like period a year ago and 1% below the fourth quarter of 2001, according to SEMI of San Jose.
"While the first quarter results emphasize the sharp decline in the worldwide semiconductor equipment market over the past year, on a sequential basis, the data also demonstrate that the market has stabilized," said Stanley T. Myers, president and CEO of SEMI.
"Although clear signs of a new market driver remain elusive, the latest monthly data reflects the first sequential worldwide billings increase in 17 months, providing further evidence that the industry's worst cyclical downturn has bottomed and is forming a new base," he said. |
