CEO's Exit May Signal Its Clothes Are On The Mend

Asked by an analyst at the close of Wednesday's call if his departure signaled that he was happy with the look of Gap's offerings for the remainder of the year, Drexler responded, "Yes."

The analyst, Jennifer Black of Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC - News) Securities Inc., said that after 24 straight months of comparable-store sales declines, she's satisfied that the Gap turnaround is for real this time.

"We believe Gap's financial turnaround has just begun," Black said. "Mickey Drexler does not seem to be someone who will go out on a negative note."

In for a bundle yesterday ... it seemed to me that this company has "rebound" written all over it during the second half of this year, and Drexler's departure just made the stock a whole lot more attractive. Yes, I believe that I'm gambling that Drexler will find the "right" replacement before he retires, but to tell the truth that looks like a pretty safe bet from here.

Buona fortuna
