SEOUL, May 24 Asia Pulse - The New Asia Economy Technology Federation [NAETF] officially took off in Seoul Friday to promote economic cooperation between Korea, China and Japan. The inaugural meeting held at the JW Mariott Hotel selected Lee Chong-hoon, former president of Chung-Ang University, Hyun Myung-kwan, head of Samsung Corporation's Japanese division and Lee Yong-teh, chairman of Trigem Computer as its joint representatives.
The new economic body is not only aimed at strengthening economic and technological ties between the three countries but also creating a channel through which their scholars, businesspeople, scientists, engineers and artists can actively exchange ideas.
In particular, it will host the first Korea-China-Japan Business Forum this October.
About 250 business leaders from the three countries are expected to discuss promoting a Free Trade Agreement [FTA] and other cooperative measures.
Forums concerning digital and electronic goods and services, logistics and transport, petrochemicals, machinery and automobiles, steel and shipbuilding, and textiles are also scheduled for the sidelines.
The NAETF and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy [MOCIE] will have working-level talks within this month to fix the details of the business forum. |
