Exactly, Since all this chip stuff is constantly transitioning... there are windows of opportunity that close.
Maybe AMD thought they needed SOI along with .13u on Athlon to keep competitive. Now time is running out on Athlon product cycle and the transition to Opteron is coming it shows they mad a bad judgement. Maybe they should have concentrated on Opteron more and and less on SOI an LowK.
So if SOI and lowK are holding up the transition to Opteron then yes, they were short sighted.
AMD always seems to get there arse in a crack like this. They make up some really cool roadmaps then after the delays (brought on by the complicated implementation) they have to leapfrog to the next generation in desperation.
No wonder their stock chart looks like a yo yo.
