=DJ Sun Micro Down -3: Merrill Cuts Revenue Estimates On Sun
Daniel Niles, an analyst at Lehman Brothers, said that while historically Sun's fourth quarter tends to be more back-end loaded - meaning must of the orders come at the
end of the quarter - than its third quarter, Sun made similar order comments during its mid-quarter update in the third quarter and its revenue missed expectations.
The fourth-quarter consensus calls for revenue to be up 7%, noted Niles, who said even his estimate of a 4% increase in sales in the fourth quarter may "turn out to be
too high."
Although Niles said Wall Street and investors are hoping for signs of a second-half recovery in information technology spending, he said Sun's comments Thursday are
"yet another indication to keep looking, and that further disappointments may be ahead."
Echoing Niles assessment, Steven Milunovich, an analyst at Merrill Lynch, said Sun's comments that orders are 2% below the third quarter leads the analyst to wonder
just how back-end loaded the fourth quarter is. He said the Sun's orders were slow in the third quarter, and that revenue came in below expectations.
The analyst, who has a neutral rating on shares of Sun, maintained his fourth quarter earnings estimate for a profit of one cent a share. Milunovich lowered his revenue
target to $3.30 billion from $3.37 billion.
