You all are forgetting here in the Beanie Baby Ivory Tower that the intellectual level can be kinda low out there in 3D.... I did hear that the number of viewers of Springer, Montel, Ricki Lake, even Oprah, are dropping. Surely that's a good sign? Or maybe it means that attention spans have dropped too far even for their feeble offerings. Today I watched a rerun of Win, Lose, or Draw which I do while I "tread". There was this beautiful actress on. She got up to draw-- the words were "Davy Crockett". She drew a bug and then kept jumping up and down and pointing at it. Bert Convy keeps trying to show her the word again. "I know it, I know it!" she screamed and drew another bug. When the time was up, she said in disgust, "It was a cricket." Like they were really stupid. Davy Cricket? Her teammates just stared at her. Well, so she got confused, I thought. Maybe she's not really that dumb. So the second time she gets up, she gets Baked Alaska. She draws the US. They guess that after a while, once she figures out how to put the Florida foot on it. Then she puts a sort of pancake on top. WHat? She keeps pointing at it and jumping up and down. Baked Canada? Baked Minnesota? But she was very beautiful. I guess I am just thinking that this discussion about dialectics and Plato and critical thinking is funny when people think Alaska sits like a beret on the Great Lakes, and Davy Crockett was a bug. Maybe you need to set the bar a little lower first? |
