LOL! A "chippie" is a mysterious place to those not acquainted with its offerings... As an expat Brit, I have to say that I miss real fish 'n chips a lot -- especially the old style when they were wrapped in newspaper! One thing you may not have tried yet a fairly recent innovation (invented in Scotland I think), which is a deep-fried Mars Bar in batter. Now if you think the fish is disgusting... :^)

I fully agree with you here. One of the reasons I emigrated was to get a decent cup of coffee!
