perhaps. but here's where I'm with you and the other anti-Fiskies--I don't really care much about the streets and souks, unless there's some very good practical reason to do so. the threat from al Qaeda isn't some generic upwelling of feeling from the street; it's a danger posed by a few thousand individuals linked together by a discrete, if flexible and resilient, organizational and financial infrastructure. warding off that danger means disrupting that infrastructure, and that's what should be top priority now. that has little to do with Iraq, and in fact could be inversely linked to action on that front, since disrupting al Qaeda will require the help of countries that don't want us to be aggressive on Iraq.
