Finally the station identified itself, and it was Fox News. I remembered that you had mentioned watching this channel, which was hard for me to believe: I couldn't imagine you (or any other thinking person) sitting voluntarily through that drivel for more than a few seconds. Did I just catch them on a bad day? Is it all like that?

LOL!

I started watching Fox News last fall, I think, when my cable company picked it up for the first time. I wanted to see what all the buzz was about. I watched it almost exclusively for about a month to try to get a real feel for its spin vis a vis the other news outlets, which many complain are biased toward the left.

I still watch it for a while most days. I watch a lot of news so it doesn't get that large a percentage of my time, but I do watch it. (Actually, I don't really watch a lot of news. It's just on in the background while I fiddle with the computer.) Fox's real value, IMO, is on the subject of politics, where it really is quite different from other news outlets. I don't think one can be fully informed about politics in this country without watching some Fox. They also cover those stories that get the social conservatives so exercised. If you want to be aware of what's stuck in their craw, this is an easy place to find out. One thing I actually like about Fox is that they have a lot of animal stories. I'm a sucker for an animal story.

As for inanity, it depends on which shows you see. Their morning show is so bad it embarrasses me to watch it so I don't. Perhaps that's what you saw. Their straight news shows, the ones around the dinner hour, are just fine. You have to be careful, though, in that many of their shows are billed as talk/tabloid rather than news and the talk/tabloid shows all over cable are really out there, not just the ones on Fox. The ones on Fox just have a conspicuously righty perspective.
