<Partly because of the delays and partly because of performance, most server manufacturers have barely marketed servers containing the first version of the chip and are concentrating on the next version, code-named McKinley, which comes out next year.>

In today's Oregonian there is is a sob piece about IBM's dismantling of what used to be (prior to IBM's takeover) Sequent. Out of 2600 people they now have only about 700 left. Guess what these people were doing here? Sequent has been working on IA-64 NUMA since about 1997. IBM bought Sequent to sell IA-64 NUMA. When Merced flopped, IBM told people here to switch to McKinley. Now IBM canned McKinley NUMA too. This doesn't look good for McItanic.
