The brokerage account for the Elgindy children was a trust account Puts. All he would have had to do is load up on Puts. Even IRA accounts - never marginable - allow you to do this. No fuss, no muss. Your point about the FBI eating their own is well-taken. That part of the story, at least, seems to have some validity.
