I've seen the opposite, other than your post, that those posturing an extreme right wing bent often immediately engage in and exhaust their personal invective pretty quickly, in 5 or 6 posts on a given subject. Then the discussion gets circular and redundant. Its almost robotic. The ERW censors commentary, such as the ERW thread on SI which blocks people from discussion that may post another POV in a discussion. Ask JLA how many posters he has blocked...
I'll have to review upcoming posts to see if the behavior you mention occurs. While those holding strong opinions on both ends of the spectrum often have blinders on, I haven't seen it to the same extent on the left as the right. The left is contemplative oftenn to a fault, the right is "just do it" with POVs that are often supplied by the media, from think tanks and politicians.
As far as economics, many more billions are available to support militarized opinions, and very little for opinions that may result in any reduction in militarization. The result of that fact finds its way into the media in many ways, not the least of which are overseas funds flowing into papers such as Washington Times, which is held afloat by $100 million per year by spook-connected sources in Korea. I'd love to see a law that provides a prison sentence for any covert funding of public media by any government agency. That would be an interesting debate.
The three major media conglomerates control something like 80% of all the electronic media, and have business ties through interlocking directorates with defense contractors, etc. etc.
So, if that's true, there isn't free enterprise in the media, and if it takes that many hundreds of millions to distort the media to the right, the tendency must therefore otherwise be the reverse, without that bias.
One can't say the influence is complete, one way or the other, tho', since there are some interesting exceptions occur. Wm Kristol's testimony yesterday regarding the Saudis being our enemy, and endorsing a full investigation into the failed intel community, is out of the ordinary. I had assumed his revenue from the ERW think tanks would have prevented such a position. |
