Intel has nothing but POS, as you call it, until 2004 or 2005 - they were quite late learning that they'd need it. Probably because they were so late in gaining any real world experience with copper.
-- The thing is, intel is clearly starting to pull away from AMD on POS, while apparently AMD's 0.13u POS is showing little if any improvement over their 0.18u. As for Cu, who cares if you consider it "late". They've got it now, and I have a feeling they'll have SOI, If and When they NEED it also. The thing is, AMD appears to need SOI NOW.
AMD has guaranteed itself a huge process advantage for all of 2003 and most or all of 2004
-- AMD barely seems to be able to produce anything on 0.13u. And if you think AMD has "a hugh process advantage" going forward, then you really do exist in some sort of dreamland.
Intel is also stuck without the right products to produce, even if they did anything better than a POS process coming in the next 2 years. With their 64-bit chip a total disaster, and their 32-bit chip about to be "286'd", they've painted themselves into a corner...
-- I can't help noticing in the past few months how your tune has changed from "AMD is kicking intel's butt" to " AMD IS GOING to kick intel's butt, IF this happens, and WHEN that happens". Very revealing.
