Steve
You ask old question.
Answered many times
Let me quote from my web site's Q&A

Hal is last word over channels !

That said: Most times hal seems to follow the channels
mainly because Hal is made up of many trend following items.

If the trend or channel is going DOWN, it is very unlikely Hal would give a BUY.

If say the nasdaq made a low for the last month, hal
could not give a buy because a low means trend is down.

One thing Hal likes is "Higher Lows".
Add that to a break out to the upside.
Add that to a very long down trend.
And you have SEP 2001 !!!!!

So far in 2002, Hal has had to work with marginal trends(g)

Hope that helps.
