Tillman's a good man, and marches to his own drummer. That kind of sacrifice was common among professional athletes during WWII and Korea (Ted Williams, among others, missed out on the most productive years of his career by serving in the military in both conflicts). The fact that Tillman's choice is so deemed newsworthy is indicative of the general decline of morals and of commitment to national service in the U.S., IMO. Back then it would hardly get noticed.
