actually, I think most of your 2 A B and C come under my 1. al Qaeda is the big cheese of the especially anti-US groups; the rest are much smaller and/or more locally focused operations.

as for 4, I think that's a huge, potentially destabilizing, and probably unnecessary task. There is little reason to believe that we know how to accomplish it, much reason to believe that the attempt would cause lots of problems, and some reason to believe that what matters is not Wahhabism per se but the form in which it is operationalized. I see no significantly better prospect than the current Saudi regime in the offing, so I'd let it be and try to affect its behavior instead.
